The Vanoise massif is located east of the town of Chambery, in Savoie (France) and features many beautiful glaciers and peaks which are ideal for a multi-day ski-mountaineering tour.
The haute route of the Vanoise, known by the summer trekkers as the Haute Route des Glaciers de la Vanoise, is a long loop around the highest summits and cols, from hut to hut, with many possible variants.
Here we suggest a tour starting and ending at Pralognan, suitable to ski mountaineers of average skill and fitness, but offering some optional variants of a greater technical challenge.
The highest elevation are around 3500 m; the best period is march-april, sometimes till mid of may.
- extension of 2-3 days to visit the nearby Polset – Péclet range, west of the Vanoise massif.
OTHERS SKI TOURING PROGRAMMES IN THE REGION
- Haute Maurienne (from Modane): mountain range Levanne – Albaron – Rochemelon, on the border with Italy
- Val d’ Isère: groups of Mont Pourri and/or Grande Sassière
